Artistic Desserts is a family-run business and was created in 2003 by Executive Pastry Chef Michael Markwitz. At a young age Michael was surrounded by talented family training. His grandfather was an established baker along with many other family members who had their hands in flour. Not knowing if he should follow his grandfathers’ footsteps, Michael attended college and studied art, music and computer science. He graduated with a computer degree. Realizing at that time computers would not be able to fulfill his artistic passion, Michael’s direction turned back to art and the culinary field. He attended the Baltimore Culinary Arts School in Baltimore and graduated in Pastry Arts with honors in 1986. He was very fortunate to study under Certified Master Pastry Chef Jan Bandula, and Certified Master Pastry Chef Walter “spud” Rhea.
Michael has worked for many top restaurants, hotels and caterers and has won many awards over the years. His knowledge and 25+ years experience has elevated him to be a very accomplished Pastry Chef, sculptor and cake artisan. Artistic Deserts and Michael has the support and dedication of his family members. Michael is personally involved in every operation of the business to ensure that your special occasion cake/dessert is created and delivered with excellence.
